Desertification Project

In my video project "Desertification, The How and The Why", I informed (or hope to) the viewer on one of today's most serious environmental issues-desertification. Desertification, the process of fertile farmland being turned into arid drylands, is one of the largest natural problems today. It affects around 2 billion people (around 1/4 of the Earth's population) worldwide, causing significant problems in Northern Africa, South Asia, Central Asia, and the Americas specifically.

As part of Watkinson School's Global Studies Program, I chose explaining causes and possible solutions to desertification. My interest in desertification doesn't come from a particular interest outside of the field of environmental studies, but instead that it is such a wide-ranging and commonly understood problem across most of the world.

During the process of creating the video, I used footage from a few videos about Desertification, mixing them with commonly accessible images available on the internet. I read from a script I had made previously and edited, although most of my time I spent on the project was in editing the sound clips and video clips or images to match up.

Overall, I hope the viewer will walk away with a better understanding of desertification and a positive outlook on possible outcomes in the close future.
